Dry Stone Dykes. The Traditional Way.

Dry stone dykes are as much a part of the Scottish landscape as the hills themselves. We build and restore them the traditional way - no mortar, just skill and good stone. Every stone placed to lock with the ones around it, creating a structure that stands for generations. It's honest, skilled work and it's what we do.

Local Stone

We use stone that suits the landscape. Matching the local geology means the dyke looks right and weathers naturally over time.

Dry stone dyke FAQ - Masowa & Son
What's the difference between a dry stone dyke and a stone wall?

A dry stone dyke is built without mortar - every stone is placed to interlock with those around it. A mortared wall uses cement or lime to bond the stones. Both have their place, and we build both.

How long does a dry stone dyke last?

Built properly, a dry stone dyke can last hundreds of years. Many of the dykes across Angus and Perthshire are well over a century old. It all comes down to the skill of the build.

Can you repair a collapsed section?

Yes. We regularly repair and rebuild collapsed or damaged sections of existing dykes, matching the style and stone so the repair blends in.

Do you work on farm boundaries?

Absolutely. Farm boundary dykes are a core part of what we do. We understand the practical requirements - stock-proofing, drainage, and working around agricultural schedules.

"Straightforward, professional, and the work speaks for itself. They rebuilt a section of dyke on our land and you'd never know it wasn't original. Exactly what we wanted."

Glen Prosen, Angus
"We'd had three quotes and Masowa weren't the cheapest. But they were the only ones who actually explained what needed doing and why. The wall's been up two years and looks as good as the day it went in."
